Gaining your licence involves three steps.

Step one - Enrol in the Online Course

The online theory course for the Recreational Marine Drivers Licence (boat) and Personal Water Craft (PWC) is completed at your own pace though our structured online learning software. Whether you’re a novice, have had previous experience on the water or would like to complete a refresher course, this course will provide you with the basic knowledge to safely understand the use of a recreational vessel. Topics covered in the theory session include: Trip Planning, Navigation, Weather/Tides and Emergency Management.

Cost to enrol in the online course is $200 for boat, $175 for jet ski or $250 for the combined boat and jet ski.

Step three - Lodge your statement of competency at TMR for processing

Once you have completed your practical session and have gained your statement of competency, simply take the statement to your local Transport and Main Roads(TMR) office for processing. You have 6 months to do this, but the licence is not recognised until your statement has been processed at TMR. In QLD, our licences are perpetual which means you do not need to renew your licence at any time in the future.

Step two - Book your practical training and assessment session

On completion of the online theory course, the next step is to attend a practical training and assessment session. On the day of this session, students complete a written assessment which involves completion of a multiple choice theory assessment. On successful completion of the written assessment, the practical training and assessment involves an on-water practical session which includes demonstration, practice and assessment of tasks. To be deemed competent, students must successfully complete all tasks to basic proficiency standard. Watch the videos below to see the skills being demonstrated!

Cost to complete the practical training session is $100 per licence. Courses run weekly from Tallebudgera Creek, Broadbeach or Coomera.
